Celebrate Black History Month With Us!
NCW Libraries is honoring Black History Month! This annual commemoration of the voices, stories, experiences, and contributions of Black Americans, throughout our nation’s history and to this day, began as weekly observance in 1926 with Carter Woodson and was extended to a whole month by President Gerald Ford in 1976.
Throughout February, NCW Libraries will be highlighting black authors, illustrators, and creators through a series of blog posts, social media content, and book recommendations.
We are also featuring an online reading challenge for all ages through Beanstack. Challenges will guide you through Black history makers and help you explore cultural traditions and honor the evolution of Black history in America. From the Civil Rights Movement to #BlackLivesMatter, it is vital to understand our history so we can impact our future. Learn more and sign up today!
NCW Libraries is committed to celebrating and representing the diversity of our communities. Our celebrations of Black History Month is one part of our systematic effort to include and highlight diverse authors, voices, and experiences in our regular programs, services, and collections.
