At NCW Libraries, our purpose is simple. We want to provide welcoming library spaces where everyone can learn, connect, and belong.
Our libraries serve thousands of people across NCW every year. From young families, students, and seniors, to job seekers, adults with special needs, and neighbors who may be navigating difficult life circumstances, the library is for everyone.
We are proud to serve our communities with kindness and respect, offering dignity and care to everyone who walks through our doors.
Safety and Dignity
Our desire to create welcoming spaces goes hand in hand with our commitment to staff and patron safety.
Your safety in our spaces is our top priority.
We protect staff and patron safety through robust safety policies and procedures. We regular provide staff trainings on safety and de-escalation. We are grateful for strong partnerships with local law enforcement and community organizations throughout our region.
Our Board of Trustees recently approved updates to our Code of Conduct policy to further improve our ability to keep our libraries safe. These updates will go into effect on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The updates were designed to:
- Clarify expectations for behavior in both physical and virtual spaces
- Provide clearer language and structure for staff and patrons
- Ensure fair, consistent responses to behavior concerns
- Strengthen our processes for safety while preserving everyone’s dignity
For most visitors, nothing will feel different. Our libraries will continue to be welcoming, community-centered spaces for you to visit and enjoy. We hope you feel encouraged by the knowledge that we have clear policies, structure, and procedures in place to protect our staff and to protect you.
