Author Robin Benway will be here in less than a week!
It’s not too late to read her National Book Award-winning novel Far from the Tree before her community speaking events on Oct. 23 in Omak and Oct. 24 in Wenatchee.
During her visit, Benway will speak to students at eight schools: Quincy High School, Wahluke High School in Mattawa, Ephrata High School, Soap Lake High School, Curlew High School, Oroville Jr/Sr. High School, Chelan High School and Cascade High School in Leavenworth.
She will also be headlining two free, all-ages community events:
- Omak: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m. Omak Performing Arts Center
- Wenatchee: Thursday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m., NCRL Administrative Offices, 16 N. Columbia St.
Far From the Tree won the 2017 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the 2018 PEN America Award, and was named one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, NPR, PBS, Entertainment Weekly, and the Boston Globe.
The National Book Foundation described the novel as a “poignant story of three young people discovering the complicated ways that families love. Grace, Maya, and Joaquin’s quest to bond as they search for their biological mother resonates across the many definitions of family. In Benway’s able hands, readers feast on a big-hearted and uplifting story about growing up, daring to count on others, and most importantly, having the courage to reveal and embrace our own imperfections.
