You are sitting on a rock with your water bottle in hand. A gentle breeze flows through your hair while the sun warms your shoulders.  You gaze out over the beautiful wildflowers and mountains. The awe of this world is before you and the only way to see it is to take a hike!

Hiking and backpacking are great ways to experience the beauty of nature around you. But where to start?

Start at your local library, of course!  Your local library has many guidebooks to help you plan your next outdoor adventure, as well as Nature backpacks filled with everything you need for a day of exploring, and even Washington State Discover Passes required for parking at many state recreation sites.

Here are some book suggestions to get you started.

Day Hikes
Overnight Hikes

Remember to check out Storywalk hikes, explore community resources such as your local Ranger Station, Wenatchee Outdoors, Methow Trails, and find online guides from Washington Trails Association, All Trails, and The Outbound

Now, go hiking!
