NCW Libraries is excited to announce that renovation work at the future Cashmere Public Library location, at the Riverside Center, is beginning earlier than planned, with construction starting this month. This milestone reflects strong community support and a close partnership with the City of Cashmere.
“This is an exciting moment for the Cashmere community and our library staff,” said Lisa Lawless, Branch Libarian at Cashmere Library. “We are incredibly grateful for the City of Cashmere’s partnership and support and we look forward to welcoming the community into a larger space that better supports families, programs, and access to critical resources.”
While construction projects can sometimes bring unexpected timeline shifts, the goal is to move the library into the new space by late summer, if not sooner. There will be no interruption to library services during construction, as the Cashmere Library will continue operating in its current location while renovation work at Riverside Center is underway. Once construction is complete, the library will close briefly to allow staff to safely move materials, furnishings, and services into the new space. NCW Libraries will continue to share updates as work progresses, including advance notice of the temporary closure.
The renovation will transform the Riverside Center into a modern, welcoming library shaped by community input and designed to serve Cashmere residents of all ages. Updates include three new meeting rooms: a teleservices room equipped with a computer and camera to support remote learning, healthcare, and community services; a small meeting and study room for up to four people with a whiteboard; and a large meeting room for up to 35 people featuring a TV, a podium, and two whiteboards. Additional improvements include new paint and carpet, updated furniture and shelving, and energy-efficient indoor lighting. The City of Cashmere received a direct appropriation that will fund the installation of an ADA push button door opener at the main entrance and patio door.
The new library space will offer more square footage and an expanded library collection of books and materials. The community voted on a design theme centering on family fun and play, supporting early literacy, exploration, and flexible use.
