Join NCW Libraries, the Library of Congress, the American Library Association, and libraries across the nation to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month and Rainbow Book Month.

The American Library Association website states, “LGBTQ Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan… The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.”

Learn more about the history of LGBTQ Pride Month through the Library of Congress.

Celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month by exploring our reading recommendations, browsing library displays, and following NCW Libraries on Facebook and Instagram. Visit your local library to find books and stories that not only represent your own experience but also the experiences and stories of others.

“Fiction gives us empathy: it puts us inside the minds of other people, gives us the gift of seeing the world through their eyes.” Neil Gaiman.
