We are THRILLED to share that local dance instructor, Sandy Zárate, has been recognized by Humanities Washington as an emerging leader making significant contributions to the public humanities.
Sandy owns and operates SanZar Dance Company whose mission is to promote culture and the arts to new generations through the beauty and tradition of Mexican Folklórico dance. In addition to her work with the company, Sandy has taught free community Folklórico classes at the Peshastin Public Library for the past four years, engaging learners of all ages and fostering cultural connection through movement and music.
Sandy was nominated for the award by Clare Morrison, Peshastin Branch Librarian, in recognition of Sandy’s commitment to cultural education and her meaningful impact on the local community.
We are also excited to debut this video about Latino Connections at NCW Libraries, featuring Sandy!

Everyone at NCW Libraries values our partnership with Humanities Washington and their Speakers Bureau program. Every year, we partner with the Speakers Bureau to bring expert presenters to our region, both virtually and online. These excellent programs are always popular and well attended, providing residents across our region with opportunities to learn, reflect, and connect. By hosting Speakers Bureau programs in our library locations, spaces that are free, welcoming, and accessible, NCW Libraries and Humanities Washington work together to spark conversation, deepen cultural understanding, and enrich our communities.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Humanities Washington selected 50 individuals statewide to receive the Humanities Washington Award, honoring those who bring new stories to light, strengthen community connections, and inspire reflection and learning. Sandy’s selection highlights her dedication to uplifting cultural heritage and nurturing community through dance.
