“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” ~ Cicero
🌷Spring gardening starts at the library.
Much like a garden, a library is a place that encourages growth. NCW Libraries has a wide range of gardening resources and programs to inspire the home gardener. From free seeds to gardening programs to books, the library is your hub for knowledge and connection this gardening season.
Seed Libraries
Many of our branches have community seed libraries, where you can find free seeds for your garden. Community members are invited to bring seeds to share and take seeds to grow. What a fun way to support each other as a community! We love that our seed libraries help make gardening and growing accessible for everyone.
NCW Libraries branches that currently offer seed libraries are: Curlew, Entiat, Ephrata, Pateros, Twisp (currently housed at the Winthrop Library) and Wenatchee.
Education & Fun
Here are some of the garden and plant themed programs being offered at our libraries this spring:
Cashmere Library: Our Cashmere Library is partnering with the WSU Cooperative Extension to offer a Garden to Table series of programs on food preservation. Programs in April include Sauerkraut & Pickles on April 7, and Jams, Jellies and Pie Fillings on April 14.
Royal City Library: Marigold seed planting, April 7 all day.
Twisp & Winthrop Library: How We Begin Our Garden, April 4, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Winthrop Library. Hear tips and tricks on how to begin your garden and take home free seed packets.
Waterville: Kids in the Garden kicks off May 30. This is a hands-on program at the community garden, just down the street from the library, where kids will be planting seeds and growing food.
Read & Weed
Our libraries have a wealth of books on their shelves for all types of gardening. Check out the online catalog and reserve some books. We also have many digital magazines with gardening tips and inspiration.
