You are invited to a Grand Re-Opening Celebration for the Peshastin Public Library on Saturday, October 5th from 11AM – 1PM.
Tour the updated library space and celebrate the library’s legacy as a community hub. Enjoy a photo display and slideshow of the library over the years and hear community members and staff share memories. Peshastin resident, Dave Wilkie, created beautiful library themed wooden ornaments to commemorate the re-opening. Attendees can paint the ornaments as well as design and create their own button with a button machine. Refreshments will be provided.
Have a photo to share? Bring it to the event or email it to peshastin@ncwlibraries.org by Friday, October 4th to be included in the slideshow.
The design for the remodel was informed by community feedback gathered in spring 2023. Community members were able to share feedback and ideas through meetings, a pop-up kiosk at the Peshastin Market, and a survey available in print or online. Their responses highlighted the welcoming nature of the local community and the importance of library programming to community life. The remodel included the following updates:
Fresh paint and new signage on the interior and exterior of the building.
- New, comfortable and durable seating, stackable tables and chairs
- Updated electrical and new flooring
- A new ADA accessible entrance with a push button door
- Moveable shelving and flexible spaces for various programming
- A self check kiosk and holds shelf
- Updated staff space
- Expanded public Wi-Fi access in the library parking lot and backyard
- Installation of a collaborative art piece created by art teacher Amber Zimmerman and the Peshastin Dryden Elementary School first graders in May 2024
The Peshastin Public Library has been serving the community since 1929. In 1968, the Friends of the Library and area residents spearheaded a remarkable effort to construct the current building. The Peshastin Library is one of only three buildings in the NCW Libraries district provided by a local Friends group rather than a municipality. Prior to this project, the last refresh to the building was in 1982.
The Peshastin Library updates are part of the NCW Libraries Reimagining Spaces Project. Through this multi-year project, NCW Libraries is investing more than $10 million to redesign the interiors of their community libraries. The goal of this project is to ensure that all of NCW Library spaces are safe, accessible, and welcoming, positioned to serve the diverse communities of North Central Washington for years to come.
Continuing their legacy of stewardship, the Peshastin Friends of the Library were instrumental in making this project possible. Led by President Diane Huntsinger-Carson and board members Ted Always, Jill Clevenger, and Victoria Cussen, the Friends collaborated closely with NCW Libraries throughout the project. In addition to contributing valuable feedback, they provided financial support to make much-needed repairs to the flooring. For those inspired by this project and the Friends’ longstanding commitment, the group welcomes new members to join their efforts. If you are interested in learning more about their work or becoming a member, please contact the Peshastin Library.
