Thriving Together NCW, in partnership with the City of Moses Lake and NCW Libraries installed a Narcan vending machine at the Moses Lake Library in November 2024.
The vending machine is in the entry area of the library and provides free access to the opioid blocking drug naloxone, also known as Narcan. Narcan is an FDA approved over the counter treatment that has been used for decades to reverse opioid overdose, saving countless lives. It is safe to administer naloxone to anyone who appears unconscious as it has no effect unless the person has opioids in their system.
This vending machine is one of 8 that Thriving Together NCW has installed in the region to combat the growing opioid epidemic. The vending machine at the library distributes nearly triple the amount of Narcan to the community than other machines. In the four-month period from November 2024 – March 2025, the machine distributed nearly 600 boxes of Narcan and was documented to have reversed 12 overdoses.
Thriving Together NCW‘s mission is to advance health and well-being in North Central Washington by unifying partners, supporting collaboration, and enabling systems change. Our mission is to connect people to vital resources and opportunities that foster individual growth and strengthen communities. This partnership aligns with NCW Libraries Strategic Direction to meet critical community needs through local and regional partnership.
Many citizens in Moses Lake have expressed their support for the machine and their gratitude for this partnership. Many citizens have visited the library to pick up a box of Narcan.
Others have asked good questions that we would like to address. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding Narcan that we would like to clarify. Learn more at the links below.
