NCW Libraries has begun rolling out Meescan self-checkout kiosks at several of its library branches. The library district, which operates 30 community libraries throughout Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Ferry, and Okanogan Counties, plans to provide the new service at each of libraries by Spring of 2025.
The project began as a pilot this summer at Chelan, Entiat, Leavenworth and Peshastin libraries. “We found that the equipment was very easy for the public to use and provided a nice options for those looking to grab their items and go,” said Tim Dillman, NCW Libraries Associate Director of Community Libraries. After evaluating the success of the pilot locations, NCW Libraries purchased the Meescan equipment for installation at all 30 locations.
Meescan is a cloud-based self-checkout system that provides a simple interface for patrons to scan library materials for check out directly to their account. While traditional checkout with libray staff will always remain available, the self-check kiosks provide an additional point of checkout and offer privacy for patrons who prefer to checkout their own materials. Meescan also offers a free, downloadable mobile app that turns most personal phones or tablets into a self-check device as well.
Patrons with a home library selected in their NCW Libraries account and an email address will receive direct notification when their library receives the equipment.
