Our STEM team is launching its new telescope program with a night of stargazing at the Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort south of Wenatchee.

Learn about the night sky from guest speaker Jack Day and our STEM librarians from 8 to 11 p.m. on June 14.

The family-friendly
event will kick off a new program made possible by a generous donation that allowed the library to purchase three new telescopes. Earlier this year,
Rozanne Lind donated the money to honor her late husband Peter Lind’s passion for astronomy and education.

Starting this fall, NCRL will make the telescopes and supporting books on astronomy available for checkout by our patrons.

At the Stargazing event, Day, a novice astronomer, will give a presentation on the night sky on the deck at the Hampton Lodge at Mission Ridge. Day and
another local astronomer will have telescopes for public use, along with the library’s three new telescopes. NCRL will also have several iPads available for public use with an app to help
identify constellations.

People are encouraged to bring camp chairs and blankets to sit on the deck, in the parking lot or on the hill to stargaze.

The bar at the lodge will be open for purchasing drinks.

NCRL plans to hold at least one more public telescope event this summer before launching the check-out program in the fall.
