Community Focused Design

From February through March 2024, our Reimagining Spaces Project team facilitated community and stake holder meetings, pop-up kiosks, and an online and digital survey. Through that Community Engagement process, they gathered feedback from over 300 community members.

Manson residents shared their love for the small-town feel, community connections, and beautiful outdoors. They envisioned the library as a community living room – a gathering space for programming and connection. They prioritized library programming for children and students, local art displays, flexible space for meetings and studying, work-space, and an accessible entry.

This vision directly informed the Manson Library’s design plan. In addition to new flooring, paint, and updated electrical, the refreshed library features new shelving and seating, two study pods, and an updated children’s area with flexible furniture that can accommodate a variety of programs. The design embraces a “Community Harvest” theme with warm colors, cozy accents, and comfortable furniture. The goal of the update was to create a community gathering space that fosters community, connection, interaction, learning, and fun.

The Impact of Partnership

The Reimagining Spaces Project is NCW Libraries $10M investment into modernizing the library buildings, owned by municipalities and Friends groups, where we provide library services. The project demonstrates the power of community collaboration and the enduring value of public libraries.

Our project budget for each library is determined by square footage of each building and the needs of the space to bring it to a shared standard. In Manson, we have allocated $184,354 to the interior refresh.

The Manson Community Library Board partnered with us to expand the impact of these funds by securing two additional grants: a $5000 Legacy Grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Washington and a $1000 grant from Confluence Health and the Wenatchee Valley Medical Group. The Library Board further amplified this investment by matching the $5,000 Legacy Grant with their own contribution plus an additional $13,000.

Together, these community partnerships added $24,000 to our investment, growing the project budget to $208,354. This collaboration allowed us to stretch our investment even further, making the enhanced entryway possible.

The success of the Manson Library project highlights the power of partnership to maximize resources, deepen community impact, and ensure that libraries remain vital, modern spaces for generations to come.
