The City of Wenatchee is making accessibility upgrades to Douglas Street!
We had anticipated this work beginning early September but we understand that construction project timelines are subject to many, many factors. The work is now scheduled to begin Monday, September 14. We will keep in close communication with the City and provide updates here and on our Wenatchee Library Facebook Page.
Once the work begins, the street closure will effect how you get to the Wenatchee Public Library. The good news is that regardless of when the construction starts, the library will remain open and maintain regular hours for the duration. Here’s what to expect.
Getting Here by Car
Douglas Street, including the circle drive in front of the library, is closed to vehicle traffic. We recommend reaching the library parking lot from King Street.
If you usually approach from Douglas, plan an extra minute or two and come around to King instead. Our staff are happy to walk you through the route if you’d like to call ahead. 509-662-5021.
Getting Here on Foot
Pedestrian access is mostly unaffected, and our front doors are open as usual. There will be some work happening on the sidewalk directly in front of the building, so you may notice cones, equipment, or a narrowed path. Please take your time and watch your footing.
Our Outside Book Drop is Closed
Our exterior book drop will be closed during construction. You have three easy options for returning materials:
- Bring them inside. Our staff will happily check them in at the desk.
- Drop them at a neighboring library. East Wenatchee Public Library, or any NCW Libraries branch, will take them.
- Just hang on to them. We don’t charge late fees, so there’s no penalty for holding onto your books until construction wraps up.
