NCW Libraries has launched a pop-up library and added a temporary location for children’s story time during the ongoing refresh of Chelan Public Library.
The Chelan Library is temporarily closed for an interior refresh that is scheduled for completion next spring. The improvements will include upgraded shelving and furniture, new paint, partial flooring upgrades, new private reservable meeting spaces, and an improved service desk.
During the closure, the new pop-up library will be located in the entryway to the library, where the old Friends of the Library bookstore was located. The hours of operation will be:
- Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. (access to items in the physical collection and use of computers)
- Tuesday & Thursday: 2 to 4 p.m. (access to collection only)
The popup library will have a selection of books, movies and other materials in the physical collection. A cart of jigsaw puzzles will also be available for borrowing.
Throughout the duration of the library closure, children’s story time has been relocated to the Lake Chelan Community Center. It will be offered on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 10:30 a.m. The program is designed for preschool-aged children and their adult caregivers, offering a half hour of stories, rhymes, and fun. The redesign of the Chelan Library was informed by more than 200 members of the community who gave input at several community engagement events. The community chose a mix of Off the Grid and Retreat designs and saw a need for a Family Fun and Play program focus. This feedback will result in a library that can more effectively balance the needs of a variety of ages, while providing a calming and peaceful aesthetic.
