Starting Monday, October 20, 2025, the Chelan Library will temporarily close so we can reimagine and refresh the space. Don’t worry—we’ll reopen in early summer 2026 with a whole new look designed with your input.
Shaped by Your Ideas
Last year, 188 Chelan-area residents shared ideas through community meetings, pop-ups, and surveys. You told us you wanted more comfortable spaces, better technology, a welcoming atmosphere, and areas designed specifically for kids, teens, and adults. We listened!
Here’s a peek at what’s coming:
- Fresh paint, updated lighting, and acoustic upgrades to make the space calmer and brighter.
- New furniture with comfy seating for reading, studying, and hanging out.
- A bigger, reimagined children’s area with interactive furniture and flexible program space.
- A dedicated teen area with computers, study space, and a book collection just for teens.
- A quiet adult reading nook with cozy lounge chairs and periodicals.
- Better shelving layouts to make browsing easier.
- Cozy touches like area rugs to complement the library’s beautiful floors.
We’re also being mindful with funds and materials: the shelving donated back in 2005 will stay, with many units updated with wheels so we can move things around as needed.
What to Do While We’re Closed
We don’t want you to miss your library while construction is happening! Staff will be hosting a pop-up library service with a small browsing collection, holds pickup, and public computers. We’ll share details later in October.
And don’t forget—the recently reopened Manson Library is just a short drive away and offers a glimpse of what’s to come in Chelan.
Investing in Chelan’s Future
This $591,609 project is part of NCW Libraries’ Reimagining Spaces Project, a $10 million investment to refresh libraries across the district. Already, communities from Brewster to Royal City have seen their libraries transformed, and we can’t wait for Chelan to join the list. Learn more here.
“Libraries are more than buildings—they’re gathering places, learning spaces, and community hubs,” says Supervising Librarian Vivian Edwards. “This project will help Chelan Library continue to be all of those things and more for generations to come.”
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for being part of the Chelan Library’s exciting next chapter! Follow the Chelan Library on Facebook for the latest news!
