All titles are available in both print and film formats at NCWLibraries.org.Where the movie title differs from the title of the book, the movie title is also included.

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

Available in Print, eBook, eAudiobook, and DVD.

In this biography, attorney Bryan Stevenson sets out to Alabama to fight legal battles for people who cannot afford proper representation. Along the way, he meets people who change his life, namely Walter Macmillan, who was wrongly convicted of murder three years earlier.

The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting (Movie: Dolittle)

The movie Dolittle is a fresh take on Hugh Lofting’s popular novel, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, in which Doctor Dolittle is a highly unusual doctor, a veterinarian of sorts, who just so happens to speak with animals. Tommy Stubbins is a young boy, who upon an unfortunate accident, is led to Doctor Dolittle to help heal a red squirrel. The two become tasked with finding a cure for the Queen of England, but with talking animals, wicked mysteries, and fantastic adventures, life is truly not what it had seemed!

 The Turn of the Screw by by Henry James (Movie: The Turning)

This novel follows a reading of a manuscript, provided by a long dead governess that Douglas, a friend of the narrator, used to know. The manuscript tells the tale of Miles and Flora and their governess, Mrs. Grose. What starts as a fairly traditional English summer story soon becomes infested with mystery and the supernatural -with an ending that not many will expect.

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells

In this novel, a stranger named Griffin blows into an English village on a blustery night, unfriendly and introverted. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden is a beloved classic novel of childhood and self-discovery. Mary is a spoiled sickly child who soon becomes an orphan amidst a cholera epidemic that ravages the English countryside. Meeting new friends and attempting to solve the mystery of the secret garden, Mary looks for a key and instead finds kindness and friendship along the way.

Emma by Jane Austen

Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma comes to life on the big screen, adapted to show the English novel in a new light. Full of regency woes, romantic misunderstandings, and the willful actions of youth, this book and movie are sure to capture lovers of Downton Abbey and Pride and Prejudice alike.

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

Doctor Sleep is the sequel to the critically acclaimed novel, The Shining. Following the events of The Shining, young Danny (Dan), now a traumatized adult, continues to be haunted by ghosts and the paranormal. Abra, a young girl who begins psychically witnessing murders by an occult group, is drawn to Dan, and the two work together to put an end to the cult group.

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey

Available as an eAudiobook and Movie.

For fans of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, A Million Little Pieces features James Frey and his attempt at rehabilitation. After years of being addicted to drugs, James decides that he will try to quit his addiction, checking himself into a rehab center. There, he meets many people who help turn the tides of his life, including a mafia boss and the lovely Lily. The connections he makes go far past his time in the center, and the people he meets help him fight relapses on his road to recovery.

After We Collided by Anna Todd

A tragic story of breakups, lost love, and rebounds, After We Collided follows the twisted romance between Tessa and Hardin right after they have broken up their relationship.
