We are very excited to announce that we are bringing award-winning author Robin Benway to North Central Washington in October to talk about her impactful young adult novel Far from the Tree.

During her four-day visit, October 21-24, Benway will be speaking at eight schools around our five-county library district. They are Quincy High School, Wahluke High School in Mattawa, Ephrata High School, Soap Lake High School, Curlew High School, Oroville Jr/Sr. High School, Chelan High School and Cascade High School in Leavenworth.

She will also be headlining two free, all-ages community events:

  • Omak: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m. Omak Performing Arts Center
  • Wenatchee: Thursday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m., NCRL Administrative Offices, 16 N. Columbia St.

Far From the Tree won the 2017 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the 2018 PEN America Award, and was named one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, NPR, PBS, Entertainment Weekly, and the Boston Globe.

Far from the Tree is the poignant story of three young people discovering the complicated ways that families love. Grace, Maya, and Joaquin’s quest to bond as they search for their biological mother resonates across the many definitions of family. In Benway’s able hands, readers feast on a big-hearted and uplifting story about growing up, daring to count on others, and most importantly, having the courage to reveal and embrace our own imperfections.” -National Book Foundation
