Join NCW Libraries, Braver Angels and the Wenatchee Valley Dispute Resolution Center for a civic discussion on how to disagree better in politically polarizing times.

The free event is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Wenatchee Public Library.

When we try to communicate across political divisions, we often lack the skills for listening carefully, looking for common ground, and sharing our perspectives in ways that connect rather than create more misunderstanding. We can learn to disagree better, which means accurately seeing where we differ and where we share common ground.

The workshop is designed to help you gain:

  • More understanding of the values and concerns of people who differ from you politically
  • Better skills for listening in a way so that the other person feels heard
  • Better skills for sharing viewpoints in a way the other person might hear — even if they disagree

Braver Angels is a volunteer-led bipartisan citizen’s movement to depolarize America. It brings people with opposing political beliefs together into a working alliance, building ways to talk to one another and participate together in public life.

The Wenatchee Valley Dispute Resolution Center is a nonprofit agency that provides cost effective mediation services, conflict resolution training, and community education in Chelan and Douglas counties.

The upcoming discussion will allow for civil discourse in a structured environment of listening and curiosity.
