Don’t wait to reserve that book or movie from the library until it’s already released!

Don’t you hate it when the movie you’ve been waiting to see comes out on DVD, but when you go to get a copy from the library there are 248 people on the waiting list ahead of you?

Did you know that you can get your name on our waiting list sometimes months before a book or movie is released? Often (but not always!), you can place a hold while the movie is still playing in the theaters.

As soon as we order books, movies, audiobooks, music CDs and other materials here at NCRL, they are entered into our computer system and can be reserved in advance.

It’s easy. The hardest part is thinking far enough ahead to do it.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. On the main page of our website, type in the title of the book or movie in the search line.

  2. Find the title you’re looking for. You’ll only see items that we’ve already ordered. If we haven’t ordered the item yet, you’ll need to check back later. When you find the right title, click on it! That should bring you a page like this, indicating the item is on order:

  3. Place your hold and confirm it, and you will be on the waiting list!
  4. Wait patiently (or impatiently) for the book or movie to be released. It will either come to you in the mail (if you chose Mail Order Library) or you can pick it up at your nearest library.
