Community Focused Design
Situated in the heart of downtown, Soap Lake Library provides convenient access to programs for all ages as well as a robust collection of physical materials. The mid-century modern design of the building provides and open and accessible feel. The NCW Libraries Reimagining Spaces Project will be the first major refresh to the building since its construction in 1968.
The redesign of the Soap Lake Library was shaped by local input. In fall 2023, 134 residents shared their thoughts through community and stakeholder meetings, pop-up kiosks, and online and paper surveys.
The community envisioned a library that serves as a central hub with dedicated areas for children to play, folks to enjoy quiet reading, and engaging programs for all ages. The updated space embraces a “retreat” theme featuring subtle earth tones, comfortable seating, improved lighting, updated shelving, and a flexible meeting room available to the public. These changes aim to create a welcoming and versatile environment for everyone.
A New Chapter
The reopening of the Soap Lake Library marks a significant milestone for NCW Libraries as we seek to fulfill our mission to create safe, accessible and welcoming spaces that reflect the unique needs and character of each community.
The Reimagining Spaces Project is NCW Libraries $10M investment into modernizing the library buildings, owned by municipalities and Friends groups, where we provide library services. The project demonstrates the power of community collaboration and the enduring value of public libraries.
